Welcome to  the Lions of 105A

Who are the Lions?  Lions are men and women (over age 18), who are volunteers and have made a personal commitment to help those persons who are less fortunate.  We belong to an organisation, Lions Clubs International, which is an international network of 1.3 million members in 202 countries and geographic areas.  Internationally, Lions tackle challenging problems such as prevention of blindness, providing clean water and drug abuse education and prevention.  The LEOS programme is aimed at the younger members of the community (ages 14-28), who are service minded.

In our District, we have 1,840 members organised in 90 clubs and we are dedicated to making life better for the less fortunate.  Each club develops their own projects (health, education and welfare) to meet the needs in their community.  Lions come together and support District projects such as the annual party for Senior Citizens at the Harrow Leisure Centre, day outings for underprivileged children including an annual trip to Chessington Zoo, youth football, youth exchange and musical, peace poster and young ambassador competitions.

Lions aim to improve the quality of life in their local communities and internationally by building eye clinics, collecting and recycling eyeglasses, providing immediate and sustained relief in the time of a natural disaster, screening for diabetes and providing antibiotics to prevent river blindness, to name a few.

While we are proud of our service, charity and fundraising projects, we also have a social side to our organisation, which take the form of picnics, dinners, charter anniversary banquets and dancing.  The Lions organisation is non-political and non-sectarian; we just enjoy each other’s friendship.  In addition, we regularly conduct training sessions for self-improvement (e.g. computer skills, presentations skills) and leadership skills, which are free to members.

We are part of Multiple District 105, which consists of over 900 clubs and 18,000 members throughout the British Isles and Ireland.  If you are interested in charitable service, improving your social network and friendships and/or learning new skills, please click on this web link  for more information.
